I started collectiong gachapon in 2023 or so, when I moved back to Tokyo. It's funny, I remember telling myself, You're an adult now. Don't waste your money on capsule toys this time because I used to buy them occasionally, usually phone charms.February 17, my birthday, is Gacha Gacha Day.
Why gachapon?
Most of the literature on gachapon and blind box toys emphasizes the elemenent of uncertainty and surprise. This is actually my least favorite thing about collecting gacha toys and I often purchase items in my collection secondhand so I can choose which design I get.My interest in collecting gachapon miniatures started as props for my doll photography. I got really into doll collecting from about 2003 and I noticed that a lot of gachapon miniatures are doll scale.
⅓ and ⅙ scale miniatures of everyday items are my favorite capsule toys because I use them for doll photography props. Over time, though, I've gotten interested in collecting gahca gacha toys as its own hobby.
