website

My Neocities account was registered in November 2022 but mostly sat gathering dust until August/September 2024, when I sat down and designed Pine Island Dolls . That got me back into indie web design, a hobby of mine (on and off, mostly off) since I was a tween.

My first ever website was called The Fantasy Library. That was in 1997 or 1998. I made little web shrines to my then-favorite books: Harry Potter, Redwall, and His Dark Materials. (I guess it's not a surprise that I grew up to be a real-life librarian.)

pine island is a translation of my surname, 松島 Matsushima.

pine island has gone through a few name changes: {para}noia (2002-2004), true love collective (2004-2006), and pink soda (2006-2011, when I lost interest in web design).

Most of my layouts have been lost to time but here is the oldest layout I could find: pink soda circa 2007.

There are a few more screencaps in the layout gallery.
